Η Κυριακή 20 Νοεμβρίου 2022 θα είναι αφιερωμένη όπως και κάθε χρόνο (η τρίτη Κυριακή κάθε Νοεμβρίου) στα θύματα των τροχαίων δυστυχημάτων. Σύμφωνα με τον Παγκόσμιο Οργανισμό Υγείας 1,35 εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι σκοτώνονται κάθε χρόνο στους δρόμους. Τα στατιστικά από μόνα τους φανερώνουν το μέγεθος του προβλήματος :
Τα τροχαία είναι η πρώτη αιτία θανάτου στις ηλικίες 5 έως 29 ετών.
Το 54% των θυμάτων είναι πεζοί (23%), ποδηλάτες (3%) και μοτοσικλετιστές (28%).
Κάθε 24 δευτερόλεπτα ένας άνθρωπος πεθαίνει λόγω τροχαίου.
Ενώ, είναι κοινώς αποδεκτό ότι η ποδηλασία έχει πολλά οφέλη για τη σωματική και ψυχική υγεία των ατόμων αλλά και την κοινωνία, περισσότεροι από 41.000 άνθρωποι/ ποδηλάτες σκοτώνονται κάθε χρόνο ενώ κινούνται με ποδήλατο για να πάνε στην εργασία τους, μία βόλτα ή ασκούνται. Δηλαδή 112 ποδηλάτες σκοτώνονται κάθε μέρα δηλαδή κάθε 13 λεπτά έχουμε ένα θάνατο ενός ποδηλάτη.
Πέρα από τους θανάτους πολλοί άνθρωποι κινούμενοι με ποδήλατο έχουν σοβαρό τροχαίο δυστύχημα που μπορεί ακόμα και να τους αφήσει και πλήρως παράλυτους.
Τα τροχαία που αφορούν ποδηλάτες μπορούν να προβλεφθούν και με ένα ολοκληρωμένο πρόγραμμα ενημέρωσης, εκπαίδευσης και παρεμβάσεων του κράτους, της τοπικής αυτοδιοίκησης αλλά και ιδιωτικών φορέων μπορούν να αποφευχθούν/ περιορισθούν σημαντικά. Είναι ενδιαφέρον να τονίσουμε ότι οι στατιστικές δείχνουν ότι όσοι περισσότεροι συνάνθρωποί μας κυκλοφορούν με ποδήλατο σε μία χώρα ή πόλη τόσο ελαττώνεται ο αριθμός των θυμάτων.
Τροχαίο «ατύχημα»;
Οφείλουμε να σταματήσουμε πλέον να τα αποκαλούμε τροχαία «ατυχήματα» καθώς δεν είναι ατυχήματα. Στις ΗΠΑ π.χ. στα θανατηφόρα τροχαία με ποδήλατα :
Στο 20% των περιπτώσεων οι οδηγοί εγκατέλειψαν τα θύματα
Στο 16% των περιπτώσεων είχαμε οδηγούς υπό την επήρεια αλκοόλ
Στο 9% των περιπτώσεων είχαμε υπέρβαση ορίου ταχύτητας ως βασικό λόγο του ατυχήματος.
Οφείλουμε να χρησιμοποιούμε τις λέξεις Τροχαίο δυστύχημα/ τρακάρισμα/ σύγκρουση (Traffic Crashes) και όχι ατύχημα. Οφείλουμε όλοι να δημιουργήσουμε μία κουλτούρα σεβασμού των πεζών και των ανθρώπων που κινούνται με ποδήλατα. Είναι σημαντικά πιο ευάλωτοι και οφείλουν οι οδηγοί να το λαμβάνουν αυτό σημαντικά υπόψιν τους.
Η Παγκόσμια Ημέρα Μνήμης των Θυμάτων των Τροχαίων στους Δρόμους (World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims, WDR) αποσκοπεί στο να θυμηθούμε τα εκατομμύρια ανθρώπων που έχουν σκοτωθεί ή έχουν τραυματιστεί σοβαρά σε τροχαία ατυχήματα.
Το Triathlon Lab Athens με την ανεκτίμητη βοήθεια και αιγίδα του Δήμου Αλίμου με μία σειρά ενεργειών θα προσπαθήσει να ευαισθητοποιήσει την ελληνική κοινωνία ιδιαίτερα για τα τροχαία δυστυχήματα που αφορούν ποδηλάτες. Θα θέλαμε να ευχαριστήσουμε ιδιαίτερα τον ίδιο τον Δήμαρχο κ.Κονδύλη Ανδρέα καθώς και τον Αντιδήμαρχο Περιβάλλοντος κ.Αντωνάκη Ιωάννη για την στήριξη του εγχειρήματος με κάθε μέσο.
